Year 4 Viking Day

Today we have really enjoyed taking part in Viking Day. We loved dressing up in our homemade costumes and were all very enthusiastic when we arrived in our classrooms this morming!

Firstly, 4H applied their knowledge of coordinates that we have been looking at in Geography and Maths to play a game of Viking battleships. We took it in turns to try and sink each others’ battleships.

After that it was time for our DT project – making Viking purses/bags. Unfortunately we didn’t have any cows in the vicinity to kill for leather so instead we had to make our purses out of felt. This morning we made our patterns and then began to cut out our felt.

Following this, we joined Jenny our Viking visitor for a fantastic workshop.

Little Amal is coming to Leeds

4H have been designing petals to welcome Little Amal to Leeds. We had a good think about ’Love’, ‘Hope’ and ’Togetherness’ before writing messages and poems to welcome Amal. These petals will be combined into big roses with which to present Amal on the 20th June when she comes to Leeds.

Make Your Own Kind of Music – Paloma Faith

Lyrics – Please learn these by Tuesday 26th May 2022

Nobody can tell ya
There’s only one song worth singing
They may try and sell ya
‘Cause it hangs them up
To see someone like you

But you gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

You’re gonna be nowhere
The loneliest kind of lonely
It may be rough going
Just to do your thing’s the hardest thing to do

But you gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

So if you cannot take my hand
And if you must be going, I will understand

You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own kind of song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along

Performance video coming next week!!

Geography excitement

Today we have been recapping our Geography objective of ’Understanding the water cycle’ by building our own mini water cycles to observe over time on our class windows.

We have also been recapping Captain Cook’s journey around the world which we first learnt in Year 2. Our new learning today was about the equator, Northern and Southern hemispheres.
